1938
Franjo Lipovec founded his own mechanical textile mill in Kamnik. Ten years later his enterprise with the main plant located in Mekinje by Kamnik had a workforce of 50. Smaller textile plants were scattered all over Kamnik and its surroundings.
1960 - 1970
Small plants merged into one company.
Plants were moved to the present-day location in Perovo, Kamnik, and an important decision was taken: To specialise production in manufacturing ties and terry products. United under one roof in 1966, Svilanit started to grow and experienced rapid development.
1971 - 1990
The company was booming. Accomplished results ranked it among leading textile mills in the former Yugoslavia.
1991
The company lost the former Yugoslav markets.
The production was reorganised.
2000 – 2002
Subsidiaries in Zagreb (2000) and Belgrade (2001) were set up.
The subsidiary Svilanit Svila was established and has had a status of an enterprise employing the handicapped.
2003 – 2005
The integration period.
Svilanit has been joined by the company BPT, Cotton Spinning and Textile Mill Tržič, a company with rich history and an outstanding programme. It was established in 1885 by the partners Glanzmann and Wachter.
Complementary production-sales programmes have been consolidated in Kamnik in order to be competitive on the ever more exacting market. All business functions have been transferred to the Kamnik location.
2005 – 2009
The expansion of the company's own retail network.
Consolidating the Svilanit brand on the EU markets.
The production has been reorganised.
2010
A subsidiary in Poland has been opened.
